STOP Falling...
    START Living...

Falls are the leading cause of injuries associated with decreased functional independence, morbidity mortality among older adults over the age of 65. More than one third of older adults over the age of 65 fall each year in the United States making it national epidemic.

Most of the older adults living independently with no previous history of falls are unaware of the risk and those who had an episode of fall have no constructive information regarding prevention strategies and risk reduction. There is also another population of older adults developing fear of falling and avoiding activities there by increasing their risk further from decreasing musculoskeletal strength and endurance.

.

Falls are neither accidents nor random acts of fate; they are predictable with identifiable risk factors and patterns in older adults. Most of all they are predictable and preventable.

Safe Steps is a Fall Prevention and Rehabilitation program developed on evidence based practice guidelines and best practices for the prevention of falls in older adults.
